For many people, living a healthy life means eating right, getting enough exercise, and being engaged in meaningful activities. This also includes spending time with friends and family. In order to live a healthy life, visiting the doctor and dentist on a regular basis can also make a significant difference in a person’s overall health and well-being.
Following a Healthy Diet
What constitutes a healthy diet may vary from person-to-person. This is because some individuals may have dietary restrictions due to health issues or because they interfere with certain medications. In general, nutritionists recommend that people should eat a minimum of 1.5 to two servings of fruit every day. It’s also recommended that they eat between two and 2.5 cups of vegetables.
When men and women are 50 years of age or older, the Institute of Medicine Dietary Reference recommends a specific amount of daily fiber intake. For women, they recommend 21 grams of fiber on a daily basis. Men, however, require a bit more. It’s been recommended that they consume 30 grams of fiber per day.
Engaging in Meaningful Activities
Staying active and pursuing personal interests can also make an impact on a person’s overall health and well-being. While some older individuals may decide to continue working after retirement, others may choose to travel or take more vacations. A 2014 Gallup poll showed that 57% of Americans over the age of 65 create time to take trips or vacations on a regular basis. According to the Pew Research Center, 83% of adults within this age bracket have grandchildren. There’s an excellent chance that quite a few of the trips these individuals take are to spend time with their children and grandchildren.
It’s interesting to note that more and more older adults are spending time online, according to the Pew Research Center report for 2014. While 71% use the Internet on a daily or almost daily basis, 11% use it between three to five times a week. Engaging in social media has also become more popular with adults 65 and older. In 2010, for example, only 11% of adults within this age bracket participated with social media, according to the 2015 Pew Research Center report. During 2015, however, 35% of adults within this age range reported that they spent time on social media sites.
Learn More About Your Medical Insurance Options
Since maintaining a healthy lifestyle means seeing the doctor and dentist on a regular basis, it’s important to have insurance options. Once someone has turned 65, they qualify for Medicare insurance. In addition to applying for Medicare, many adults also realize the benefit of having Medigap Insurance as well as Medicare supplement insurance.
If you’re beginning the Medicare application process, it’s important to learn about your options for supplemental insurance as well. When you contact a Medicare supplement insurance company, they will be able to provide you with detailed information. While there is a variety of material available about these insurance plans on the Internet, speaking directly to a Medicare supplement insurance company is important. This is because a Medicare supplement insurance company representative will be able to answer questions that may not be addressed in online materials. Furthermore, when you speak to a representative, they can assist you with choosing the best insurance options for your individual situation.
